FISH'N TALES ADVENTURES
Fishing Trip FAQ
What type of fishing will we be doing and what kind of fish will we catch?
We will be doing drift bottom fishing and target many species of fish. Our most common catches include Scup, Black Sea Bass, Fluke, Sea Robin, Dogfish, and Cunner. Uncommon catches include Bluefish, Striped Bass, and False Albacore. We cannot guarantee that you will catch fish but our crew will help you in every way possible.
Where will we be fishing?
Our fishing locations range from spots in the east passage of Narragansett Bay from the Newport Bridge south to Brenton Reef. We choose our locations to minimize travel time and maximize fishing time. We typically move among several sites each trip. Selections are made based on weather, tide and previous fishing success.
Will I get seasick?
We do our best to give you a comfortable trip on board but it not unusual for us to experience wave action as we conduct our drift fishing. If you feel that you are susceptible please take whatever precautions you feel are appropriate.
Do I need to bring my own rod and reel? Can I rent rods & reels?
Rod and reel use is included in the price of the trip. We supply you with a rod and reel, rigs and bait. You may bring your own rod and reel but the crew must determine whether or not it will be compatible with our fishing. If not, you will not be allowed to use it.
What kind of rods/reels/rigs do we use?
We use a mixture of boat rods of different brands, all with Penn 500 conventional reels.
What do we use for bait?
We use freshly cut squid for bait.
Do I need a saltwater fishing license?
No, Northeastern already has a license from the State of Rhode Island that covers you while you fish with us. You do not need a license to fish on our boat. If you choose to fish saltwater from shore or on a boat on your own you will need to obtain a saltwater fishing license from the state of Rhode Island.
Can the kids fish too?
Yes! Kids of all ages are welcome to come fishing. The type of fishing we do is very beginner-friendly.
